Congratulations! I had to look up chuffed : ) from the U.S.
Gave them up 1 week ago..8th day today. You can do it.
I was a single Mom and used to feel the same way when I quit back then. Took me a few tries and was off for 9 years. Started up again about 8 years ago. quit for another yr. in between. Once you stop don't tell yourself you can have just one cause you'll be off and running again. I use nicorette and ecigs in between to a minimum and they help A LOT!!!
Do it for your health in the future cause as you get older they effect you even worse. Who wants to die a miserable death if you can help prevent it. Good luck!

Kudos for you for four weeks of being smokefree! If you have specific triggers for smoking (like seeing the coffee pot), you can put a picture of your daughters there to remind you of why you're making this change.

Keep up the good work!

Well Folks,

I am now starting my 4th week off Cigarettes without any Nicotine replacement products. Im not saying they dont work for people Im just chuffed that Ive gone this long (cold turkey) and know that Im getting any Nicotine in my system. I have a ad a few 'oh god' moments like on a friday when I finished work and my first thought was a cig and then I remembered that I couldnt and I actually felt slightly down, but I knew it would pass, and went food shopping and it did pass.. Im chuffed I got through the weekend again without smoking...

Good luck to everyone giving up. I was a 20 pack a day smoker, sometimes more..I used to set my alarm clock at 7.30am so I could have a coffee and about 4 cigs before getting my daughters lunch ready for school (mental, I know)..and then proceed to 'reward' myself for nearly every thing I did to have a cig... I know everyone says it but after 23yrs of smoking, If I can do it, seriously 'ANYONE' can..

Best of luck.

One week off the smokes today. Im 40yrs old and smoked 20 a day for the past 23yrs, dont get me wrong, im digusted Ive spent the best part of my life poisioning myself.....Anyway, after some failed attempts using Nicotine replacements products and Champix I decided I would just bite the bullet and go cold turkey...My reason for giving them up is I had the strangest dream (it was so vivid), that a chinese lady approached me at a social function and looked at my palm and said 'emer you will be dead in 5yrs!!!', needless to say I freaked out at her in ike that'.. As she was being taken out of the function room, she just said 'emer, why are you shouting at me, I am only telling you the truth, you will be dead in 5yrs'...I woke up sweating and my mind knew that I had just been given a message to sort myself out and get off the smokes. Mind you, it took 2wks of thinking about the dream to decide enough is enough...

So far I have to say I havent found it to hard, my sleep has definitely been affected, Im waking up nearly every hour on the hour and Im sweating, but apart from that, it hasnt been as tramatic as I thought. I think you just have to remember that the cravings are just thoughts,an empty feeling that will pass if you keep busy...

I have allowed cigarette to control my life for far to long, Im now taking back control.. I wish everyone giving up smoking, thinking about or off them for a short or long time the very best of luck.. Please god I hope i never touch them again because this time I REALLY dont want to..Just one more thing before I go, being a single mum I watched a utube video called 'THANKS TOBACCO, YOU KILLED MY MUM', the video was made in America and it had me in tears because it could have been my daughter watching me!! the poor womans breathing just before she died scared the c..p out of me..

It helped me give up I hope it helps you to.

I have been off the smokes for 39 days now, and I believe that if you really want to quit it will be easy. I smoked for 11 years and tried to quit many times but for the wrong reasons; health, money, social implications etc. I believe that you will only be successful if you want it. Good luck.

HELP !!
Many failed attempts - seem to go back heavier each time. My health is starting to scare me now and I get so breathless doing anything - I'm 41. Willpower is the key I know, but what do you recommend as the best aid to helping a willpower that seems to constantly fight with itself ??!!
Thanks

Maybe you should try Weight Watchers Online. Most of us don't know what a portion size really is or how much exercise it takes to get a little more freedom / the food.

Or really count calories, write down everything. Maybe the cyclng is not enough. I know I started weight/strength training this year and I was amazed at how much more I could eat and still lose weight and inches.

Sometimes a kick start to the metabolisim is all we need. You did take away the cigarettes/nicotine which is a metabolism booster.

Good Luck

There is no easy way to quit smoking. The quickest way is to stop right now then discipline yourself to never pick one up again. If you are really determined you can stop permanently. Forget the drugs, gums and patches is all they do is just delay the withdrawal form tobacco and actually makes it even harder to quit in the end.
